Several silver cone machined parts on Christopher Hill’s studio workbench.

A career spent creating physical reality from the visions of others is never dull. It has its twists and turns together with rewards, but always compromises. Compromises are the disappointing consequence of design for mass markets

Imagine a moment when as a maker, you stop to consider the tools you possess, your mind, your hands and the ability to create anything. After 40 years striving to become a master of his art, Christopher had a moment of realisation which forged a renewed perspective, revived passion and revitalised his thinking. It was at that moment Christopher decided to dedicate his decades of skills to conceive and create pieces for his own enjoyment

As a designer and maker he uses only the finest materials. Each piece meticulously combines precision machine engineering, hand shaping, finishing and assembly to produce heirloom items, worthy of the most discerning owner

Ivory and Red Esoteric Task lamp by designer, Christopher Hill. Lamp is bent over with light on.

Christopher’s studio is located in the Yorkshire countryside. It is here that he hand makes to order each and every piece, drawing upon childhood influences from both fictional and historical 1950’s and 60’s space travel for his ongoing ‘Esoteric’ collection. The series contrasts stark, engineered details with playful forms and nostalgic colour palettes
